2017 Fanfiction Round-Up
1. Total year-long word count:

some more stuff for ook & 456, a buncha oneshots (mostly knb x nba), a few ideas i've talked with people about the last couple years but haven't actually done anything about...i don't have a number (and it's growing all the time anyway). and idk if it's a wip bc it's more of an idea, but i do wanna remix 'as snow' bc i feel like i can do better things for the idea now than when i wrote it
5. This year I wrote and posted:
120 fics (some of which roll up into larger collections), ~900 short saso br things, parts of 2 saso mr fics...i think that's it?
6. Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?
more words but fewer fics lol (in april, i thought i'd hit 500 on ao3 by august--i just got there 2 days ago. saso was not on my radar at all and that disrupted everything)
7. What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January?
honestly a lot but..., i never thought i'd write tatsuya playing pro basketball but then knb x nba happened i can't fucken believe it was this year what a time to be alive
8. What's your own favorite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest?
Where You Are, Where I'll Be -- Writing it was so fulfilling; it took a while but never made me impatient, and i'm very pleased with the result
9. Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?
i tried to write a longfic and learned that i really could...I collaborated with others and my perspective broadened so much from that...I wrote fics where I wasn't that familiar with the fandom and characters and it was a bit uncomfortable to do but they were well-received, and learned maybe i don't need to be extra deep knowledgeable about the characters/media to write! (or at least i should be less afraid and more willing to put myself out there, mistaken/half-formed characterization and all)
10. Your best story of this year:
Long Slow Road...while I was writing it i was in this kind of. feeling ig? like i had been feeling fed up and annoyed with writing in general and this was very much a cool refreshment
11. Your most popular story of this year:
Reprieve got the most kudos ig? im trying to make peace with being unpopular lol
12. Story of yours most under-appreciated by the universe, in your opinion:
Centuries has such niche appeal but cmon...i like the snapshots and jumping around in time, and it's aohimu and hockey paired with a good song
13. Most fun story to write:
Matter of Interest probably...it had a few elements of things i'd been thinking about and it was like fitting things into a puzzle. idk i love charas being vain
14. Story with the single sexiest moment:
the aomura with mura in a dress (a strong contender for most fun to write)
15. Most "Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story:
delivered to you wrapped in cellophane once i got started i just kinda went all-in oops
16. Story that shifted your own perceptions of the characters:
Optimize This (putting kise & kasamatsu in a setting this familiar to me made me much more sympathetic lol)
17. Hardest story to write:
Until it All Runs Dry
me: is it over yet, story: NO WAIT THERES MORE
I kept at it though mostly because I was like "I WILL NOT LET YOU BEAT ME" and it was definitely an Experience. it's also the kind of fic i love to read, like give me all the oneshots about aging athletes struggling with letting go of the only thing they've ever done! i wanted to pay some of that forward and living up to my own expectations was difficult; being patient and going back to edit again and feeling like i was making little progress was definitely worth it, because i ended up with the fic i wanted to write.
18. Biggest disappointment:
Strange, Familiar--the prompt was so good and i really didn't fill it the way i wanted to...i don't know if i can go back and rewrite it or even /do/ anything with what's there
19. Biggest surprise:
Scale of Victory i mean...2.3k of takamido? ME? im weak to canon div but not when it's a pairing i don't like...tho writing this def made me soften up on those two a bit.
20. Most unintentionally telling story:
I did not mean for Crush to be so full of projection but it was ayyylmao
21. Favorite opening line(s):
“I think I’ve got another year left in me.” (until it all runs dry)
22. Favorite closing line(s):
