Ignis Ex/Remi Puguna

(Fic) Remi is so diligent and honestly sounds like a joy to have as a subordinate. Ignis doesn't seem like the kind of guy who overtly plays favorites, but I love the idea that Remi is his favorite/hand-picked successor. Remi comes across as the type who would be a go-getter no matter what, but I love him being extra motivated to impress the boss because of his not-so-secret crush. Maybe he shows his interest by shouldering more of the workload, asking Ignis how he's doing, etc.
(Fic) I'd love a fic where they're both totally into each other but neither of them says anything and somehow everyone assumes they're dating already. Maybe they end up in compromising positions, and even Ignis gets a little flustered, and Remi is just not prepared for it?
(Fic/Art) One of them staying up late working and the other bringing coffee/pizza/companionship
(Art) Art of the two of them working together, or Ignis training Remi, would be lovely!

Remi Puguna/Varys Truss

(Fic) I love their teamwork, and I would love missionfic pre-canon or post-canon, the two of them counting on each other to help rescue people. Maybe they bond over having similar (or different) reasons to join Burning Rescue? Maybe they help each other deal with a rescue that doesn't go as well as they were hoping?
(Fic) Or an ensemble piece where one or both of them goes to the others for help winning the other over? Does Lucia try to play both sides? Do Aina and/or Galo fall for that "my friend has this crush" type line? I'd love the teammates earnestly trying to help, though, even if Lucia can be a bit of a troll.
(Art) I'd like to see them having a casual hangout outside of work.

Hasegawa Nanako/Higa Hiromi | Shadow

(Fic) What would Langa think of the two of them going out? Does it change if he invites Shadow over and Shadow and Nanako take a liking to each other, versus the two of them meeting via other means and finding out about their connection via Langa later?
(Fic) Does Nanako feel conflicted about moving on, even this long after Oliver's death? Does she expect to feel more conflicted than she does after she falls for Shadow?
(Fic) Nanako's been away for a long time, so I'm sure lots of things have changed. What new parks/stores/buildings/etc can Shadow take Nanako to? What are some things that Nanako remembers from before that are still there, that Shadow doesn't know about? It would be cool for them to see Okinawa through each other's eyes.
(Fic/Art) I'd love to see Shadow taking Nanako skateboarding! Maybe he lends her an old board of his? (Alternatively, Nanako taking Shadow snowboarding.)

Higa Hiromi | Shadow/Nanjo Kojiro | Joe/Sakurayashiki Kaoru | Cherry Blossom

(Fic) How does Shadow fit in with Joe and Cherry's long, deeply-intertwined history? Does it make him nervous/apprehensive? Is he drawn to that/does he really love the way they love each other?
(Fic/Art) Shadow using flowers as a love language, particularly if Joe and/or Cherry know exactly what he's saying with them already.
(Art) Joe picking up Shadow in one arm and Cherry in the other!

One Piece

Art likes: Ocean/boat scenes, revisited settings from early in the canon
Fic likes: Different power AUs, action scenes, parties, characters picking up their love interest(s)' habits/tastes

Brook/Franky/Nico Robin

(Fic/Art) Robin probably learned some music during her time as a geisha. I'd love to see her and Brook performing for Franky!
(Fic/Art) Robin has a taste for the macabre, and Brook's just bones after all....I feel like Franky would very often have a reaction of "you two are so weird" (not that he's one to talk) and "I love you so much" both at once to whatever their latest antics are.
(Fic) They've all had times in their life where they were pretty alone, so a fic that deals with that, whether it's the focus or just something in the background that might not even be mentioned explicitly, would be great.

Buggy/Portgas D. Ace

(Fic) Buggy mentioned they were drinking buddies, but we don't really get to see too much of the two of them together in the manga. Did they sail together for a while? Were they casually hooking up, or were things a little deeper?
(Fic) Does Ace, consciously or not, remind Buggy of Roger? Does Buggy mention it indirectly? Does he mention it directly only to make Ace angry/upset? Or does Buggy only realize afterwards, when he knows about their connection? And overall, how does he deal with Ace's death, regardless of how things were in their relationship at that point?
(Fic/Art) Buggy showing his softer side with Ace--letting Ace sleep on his shoulder, ruffling his hair with a floating hand, pouring him two beers at once?

Hina/Tashigi

(Art) Clothes swap! Tashigi in one of Hina's suits, that's just a little big on her, and Hina in Tashigi's floral shirt!
(Fic) Hina taking Tashigi bar-hopping would be great, whether they're already together or just into each other and haven't done anything about it yet. Maybe it's not Tashigi's scene--or maybe she's surprised by how much she enjoys it.
(Fic/Art) Meet-cute where Tashigi trips and falls right into Hina.

Crocodile/Mr. 1 | Daz Bones

(Fic) Crocodile went from "loyalty is weakness" to "I will break Daz out of prison, defend him when he's overmatched in a fight, and ask him to come sail into the New World with me" in a matter of months. On the flip side, Daz stayed in prison with Crocodile when the rest of Baroque Works broke out, refused to be broken out of Impel Down until Crocodile specifically came to get him, and was ready to sail off with him as soon as he asked. What was that thought process like for either or both of them? How aware are they of the depth of each other's feelings?
(Fic/Art) I'd love to see fic or art of these two using their powers together. Maybe they build a ship, cutting and sanding the boards. Maybe they slice and cure meat together, or build a sand castle.

Monkey D. Luffy/Vinsmoke Reiju

(Fic) I don't think either of them is close to pursuing a relationship right now, so something needs to give them a push. What sudden change(s) of circumstances could both throw the two of them together and make them not only fall for each other but decide to pursue something in earnest? (Or, if you want to lean into the angst, the opportunity presents itself but they decide not to take it.)
(Fic) Yes, Reiju really was sucking out the poison, but I like to consider the possibility that that first impression could have awoken feelings on both sides--if not love at first, uh, kiss, then at least attraction. Maybe they're oblivious and/or in denial about their own feelings, but they keep thinking about each other, and then when they see each other again having that realization/thinking they're really into each other.
(Art) Luffy's only 1cm shorter and Reiju wears those tall shoes all the time. I'd love to see her in even higher heels, and anything that emphasizes her being (usually) the taller one.
(Art) Reiju really needs a hug. Luffy's arms can stretch arbitrarily.

Smoker/Tashigi/Trafalgar D. Water Law

(Fic/Art) I'd love to see Law swapping Smoker and Tashigi's bodies again, when they're already together. Maybe when they're more prepared, they get to enjoy it more--or Smoker gets frustrated at seeing Tashigi not use his powers well, and Tashigi forgets to take off her bra and Smoker destroys it again. Feel free to make this as funny or sexy (or both) as you want.
(Fic) How would the three of them get together? Does it start when Law is a member of the Shichibukai? Does it start out as V-shaped with Smoker in the middle, and then hey, turns out Law and Tashigi get along? Do Smoker and Tashigi have to work with Law, again, and do they end up really enjoying it (and also Law's company)?
(Art) They'd look amazing fighting on the same side, or examining each other's weapons.

Overall Thoughts

1. This year I wrote and posted:
2 shortfic collections (14 shortfics overall), 1 chapter of an ongoing fic (more of a collection/anthology than anything else), and 101 individual fics.

2. What were your goals for writing going into this year? Did you achieve them?
I wanted this year to be the Year of Writing For Me. I tried my best to write what I really wanted to write instead of trying to write what I thought other people wanted to read and then getting mad when I didn't get much in the way of feedback. I tried to focus on the process and what made writing fun for me, rather than the response or writing for fandoms/ships/characters/ideas I thought I "should" enjoy more.
I feel pretty successful in that regard! I stopped writing almost completely over the summer because I didn't feel like it (and I had a lot going on in my personal life). I probably would have made myself keep going with SportsFest or ship days or something else during almost any other year, but I made the conscious decision not to overcommit myself, and avoided a lot of stress.

3. What did you try this year that didn't succeed?
NaNoWriMo! I wrote an outline, made a playlist, and...never touched the doc for the rest of the month. Also my brief foray into first-person POV didn't turn out very well, but I posted it anyway. And there were a couple of WIPs I wanted to finish before the end of the year that are still WIPs.

4. What was the state of your WIPs in the beginning of the year, and what's their state now?
I had a lot of WIPs spread across different documents (old fest prompts, regular WIP documents where I'd just move to the next when one got too long). I made several attempts to consolidate WIPs and also made a graveyard doc where I put things I'm not planning on writing anytime soon (or maybe ever) but just want to keep for reference/possibility. Overall though, I came into the year with a lot of half-formed ideas and partially written fics, and I'm coming out the same way (but with different ideas/WIPs), which is par for the course.

5. Any miscellaneous thoughts on this year?
2020 was a pretty terrible year by just about any measure, but I was still able to make a few positive changes in my life, particularly regarding fandom. For years, it had been overall a really miserable thing for me, which I couldn't really admit to myself (or see the extent of) until I had some distance from that. But this year, I enjoyed reading and watching canons. I enjoyed looking at fanart and reading fic and comics. I enjoyed writing, increasingly through out the year, and when I wasn't having fun with things I stopped. I know this is basic stuff, but it's made a huge difference and, especially with this year being what it was, I'm glad I had fandom as a bright light.
Also, I'm so glad I did Peachtober and WIPtober (making myself write at least a little bit about writing every day of October)--they definitely helped me focus on writing what I wanted to write and think more deliberately about what I was writing.

6. Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?
More. I've been revising my expectations all through the year though.

7. What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January?
One Piece. I'm still surprised by that a little bit, but I'm so glad to be back in it, and that I could write for some ships and characters that I'd always meant to years ago but never did.

8. What's your own favorite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest?
Placement! It's an AU I'd been thinking about for a while, and still think about (I'd love to do more). I'm really fond of Theo/Andy, and I think I was able to channel that well in the story, get the details right, and make things come out the way I intended.

9. Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?
I wrote a fic in first-person (From This Side)! I'm not really happy with the way the fic turned out, but it was a fun experience and I think it helped me get into Theo's head better.
Not sure if this counts as a risk per se, but I stuck with a few fics that were tough going, and resisted the urge to just give up and leave them partially-completed in a document somewhere. It felt like a risky way to spend my time to me, anyway!

X Of the Year

10. Your best story of this year:
Placement again. I'm so fond of it! It really was written the way I wanted it to be, which is so rare for me. I love canon divergence AUs in general but I really thought about this one a lot and that comes through in a good way in the story itself.

11. Your most popular story of this year:
By kudos/bookmarks it's Reciprocity, and by comments it's Cul-de-sac and Centrifuge

12. Story of yours most under-appreciated by the universe, in your opinion:
Well, Regression currently has no kudos or bookmarks, and I enjoyed writing that one, so.

13. Most fun story to write:
you are not the pie crust it just all came flooding out and was a joy to write.

14. Story with the single sexiest moment:
The gazebo sex in rain on me, maybe?

15. Story that shifted your own perceptions of the characters:
In Tongue really made me start to connect with some of the HypMic characters--and then I lost it a few days later. Ah, well.

16. Hardest story to write:
Reciprocity, aka The Strawberry Tart Fic. I was not happy with the prose or the structure of this fic and kept writing and rewriting it over and over again. I was pretty rusty when I started it too, and able to recognize it in myself, so I needed to be hard on myself and patient with the story, and...things came together well for it. (I haven't been able to look at it since publishing, though. Maybe in another year.)

17. Biggest disappointment:
I felt really good writing the beginning of Of Subconscious and then it kind of fizzled out for me, and by the time it was done I just wanted to toss it into the void. I wanted to have fun writing it, but I just felt self-conscious.
Speaking more broadly, I wanted to participate in SportsFest more and do more exchanges. It's not something I'm well-equipped to do at the moment, but maybe sometime in the future.

18. Biggest surprise:
In terms of individual stories, foot to head--I'd felt pretty shaky about it (and that had been after trying and giving up on at least 5 different ideas to fill the prompt) but people seemed to like it and it pushed me in way deeper with Law/Zoro heh.
Overall, I think...everything was a big surprise this year. I'm not sure what I expected, but it certainly wasn't this division of fandoms/ships/characters/subjects. Maybe that I wrote more optimistically than I ever would have guessed, especially given all that happened this year?

19. Most unintentionally telling story:
What Matters. While I was writing it, it helped me make sense of some unrelated things.

20. Top 5 scenes from anywhere you would choose to have illustrated:
The sunflower scene from Cul-de-sac / Centrifuge
The koi at the end of Tightened Ties
Mist and Greil's reunion in Beyond Possibility
The baby reaching for the gourd in in your own time
Tashigi up late reading while Law sleeps under her coat from i'll be around

21. Fic-writing goals for next year:
Finish more WIPs. Continue to write for myself, first and foremost, and enjoy the process. Find some way to consistently write/post shortfic again (maybe resurrect my old prompt generator). Write for the characters/ships/fandoms that I didn't get to this year but wanted to.
